about

Every day is a gift. The people embedded in the path throughout our whole life journey are treasures. Some of those people are treasures in the rough.

Since earning an Interdisciplinary Studies B.A. The research I've done in the disciplines of Psychology, Health, & Studio Art I found an intersection with Biblical studies that led me to the development of the clay works series I would like to share with you. I do hope you enjoy what you find.

spirit journey

This series represents a symbolic experience. If you will take a moment with me here, and consider our humanity. In our humanness and in interest to leading productive lives we all have our own ways to journey in the experience of life. Most have heard how in the garden of Eden God created Adam from the clay of the earth. That was of course, after he created the heavens the earth, and everything in it, speaking it into being. In essence, our human bodies are clay vessels filled with soul and spirit. It wasn't too long ago I learned something new. I learned that there is a difference between our soul and spirit. I always thought they were interchangeable but learning the difference helped me understand so much about life's journey to know Jesus in my spirit. Our soul is the place of our emotions where our thoughts and mental states form our decision-making. This series symbolically represents one life journey, in moments or seasons. A struggle within body soul, a search to find what the holy spirit has softly been whispering all along, you are not alone. I am hoping to share with you what he has revealed to me: the sound of Jesus' Word revealed in color on clay just as he spoke it in the beginning.

sculpted story vessels

Biblical story visually realized in baso-relief sculpture rising from the walls of a thrown clay vessel.

Following a deep dive study in scripture, prayerful moments seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance, visualizing realizing biblical themes through the action of creative expression brings me a great sense of wholeness. In this portfolio, I hope to share a small sense of what my spiritual eyes have learned to see.

Creating forms seems to make sutures that heal the fractures within my soul transversing this carnal realm.

The action of centering, pulling, and shaping vessels on the wheel enabled me to dissolve anxiety built from stress and has motivated me to keep going. Visualizing biblical stories during personal Bible study I found the artist in me to surface.  In drawing and carving wood  I found the synthesis to depict them; ultimately sculpting these mental pictures into the clay.
